A happy find!

.

Tidying the shed and found some wine I had made a while ago using dates and sherry yeast.

Normally home made wines have minimal keeping qualities but this one was a surprise.

A rich, syrupy sherry.

Happy (dessert) days!

  1. When I read the label, I thought, 'Aw, that would be nice to have during a date.' Then I realized it was 'date' as in 'fruit' and not as in 'I hope this ends in a grope'... and I laughed. Sometimes I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree ;)

  3. Well, I liked the bottle enough to post it as a wallpaper here, and Steve saw the wine and suggested I ask, borrow, or beg the recipe off you.
I suspect (after actually having to throw away a couple dozen pears)(I mean, c'mon! Pear pie, pear sauce, pear pudding, pear casserole, pear jam, pears and chicken, pears and....omigod! pears pears pears!) he'de have liked to've made some wine and set them down to that for a couple years or so.

Bet it would taste great with raisin icecream!

  5. It's always good to see what others use for their home brew wine.

Around here there is a fair amount of rhubarb and choke cherry and even occasionally gooseberry wine put up.

Enjoy the syrup - and what does date wine/sherry taste like?

  7. A bit like Pedro Ximenez, the Spanish sherry.

  10. I like Diane's idea - a touch of this sherry and the night ends with a grope. Sounds good to me! LOL I'd imagine it was pretty rich when it was new as well.
