New Year Resolutions.
But it seems to me that people are doing it all wrong. Digging in the wrong place.
Every year people sit down with basically the same list of last year's failures, rework them, resolve that THIS year things will be different.
Here's an idea for you to ponder:
What if, instead of listing all the things that have eluded you every year before, what if you made a list of the things that you already can do…
And resolve to do them better?
...
I like that kind of postive thinking!
ReplyDeleteThe Dianes think alike :)
ReplyDeletedo you mean like dig a hole for the new apricot tree?
ReplyDeleteGood dog! Good dog! Just a bit deeper, eh?
Good Idea.
ReplyDeleteBoneman beat me to it. Nevermind.
ReplyDeleteSo, what exactly are you planning to improve on?
something like... hope you will be good to the year 2009? instead of hope 2009 will be good for you?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Lee! I'm not into resolutions too as I constantly have new lists of things to achieve in my mind regardless of what month or time it is..Now, whether I achieve them or not is a different story altogether..
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Lee - very positive - trouble is, when you're perfect already it's kind of difficult to think of something I can improve on. As for my mum, yeah I can think of tons. I'll leave her a list;)
ReplyDeleteno resolutions here. i don't need anything to encourage guilt or my berating myself. yours is a fine idea! we can resolve to become more expert in certain areas...getting better and better as time goes by.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! May you become highly skilled in something you enjoy, and as you approach your 20,366th day of living may you find life still being challenging, generous, and fun.
That's a brilliant idea! So, you're not just a pretty face...?
ReplyDeleteLee - that is brillant! I am going to be more positive in 2009!
ReplyDeleteResolutions are usually banned in this house -it's so depressing when one breaks them. I think your way is much better, Lee. I hope you and your family have much to be happy about in 2009
ReplyDeleteI like adding the word "yet", for example "I can't play Maple Leaf Rag on my guitar - yet."
ReplyDeleteI tend to challenge myself with something rather than give up something. I think that I'm on the same page as you. I did post my results from this year's resolution if you care to see what I mean:

Have a Happy New Year!
I like your twist on things and I've already written my resolutions and I think I might have accidentally done just what you've suggested here.
ReplyDeleteI've already resovled to have no resolutions!
ReplyDeletePuts a positive spin on the idea. I never make lists, nor do I make NY resolutions.
ReplyDeletehow apt, that is exactly what me & mine sat and discussed this very morning - why on earth would folk wish to do it any other way
ReplyDeleteI like it.
ReplyDeleteI'm no good at NY resolutions, and no longer bother. If it's something I want to change /do, I do it (or try) regardless of this official "starting line for the race." Waiting until the proper day to begin only takes the determination out of my decision.
Oh my God!! This has been my attitude EVERY year for the past few years at least. I am so thrilled to have found someone who thinks the same way.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I add that -
1. Things I did, I will do better
2. And things I will do for the first time, I will do as well.
:)
