Nanny State.

Everywhere you go in Britain you get warnings.

At the Roman ruins yesterday we were warned that the door to the museum was stiff and to mind our fingers. We were also warned that the ground in the field may be uneven and to watch our step.

  1. For heavens sake don't come to the US. Trial lawyers have created a place where you would either replace the decking with a solid surface or close it alltogether for fear of lawsuits.

Loved Portugal. They seem not to care if you live or die. Just go anywhere you want; it's your neck, break it or don't.

  2. I am ashamed of our attitude here, Lee.
They cut down chestnut trees in case children go into the road to collect the conkers.
They take down hanging flower baskets from the street in case they fall on someone.
They stop village events that have gone on for decades (like pancake races) in case a pancake falls from the pan and someone slips on it.
I could go on and on - it is all because of the "compensation culture" which we have inherited from America
