The Melbourne Cup

"Viewed" (top) wins the Melbourne Cup by four fifths of two thirds of seven ninths of a nose.

I hope things are not this tight tomorrow, in 'that other two horse race'.

Note that the grey one lost.

    Why in photo finish photos are the backgrounds blurred while the horses are not?

  5. I think the camera moves in sync with the horses on a rail beside the track for about the last 10m. The name Psmith seems to ring a bell for the inventor of the process. Australian, too, I think.

  6. OK, maybe not. It seems to be a stationary camera with a circular film turning at the same speed as the horses. See here

    Not sure where I got the Psmith from either.
