Phones

Had a service man call around today - the range hood fan had been playing up but, as is the way, it worked perfectly while the service guy was here *sniff* - anyhoo, the service guy took a phone call while he was here and his phone rang like a 'proper' phone. (It was actually an iPhone, so you can see where the call-out fee goes.)

"Ring-ring. Ring-ring. Ring-ring."

My phone, a bottom of the range Nokia but bought in Borneo after my previous bottom of the range Nokia was stolen, is also set to do a basic ring. But it sound much tinnier than the iPhone.

You gets what youse pays for, I guess.

What sort of ring tone does your phone have?

  1. I don't have a mobile phone so I guess mine goes "knock knock".

  3. I have a Motorola RAZR V3, but I don't know how to describe the ring. I always try to find something near to the sound of a regular phone ringing when I set the ring tones but none of the options really do. I am never interested in the music or other optional sound choices that to me seem silly for a phone. I am too old for such things! ;)

  4. Mine was originally set to sound like birdsong but I never answered it because I thought I was hearing birds singing - now it's set as a phone ring, rather strident and demanding. At least I know it's no bird...

  5. Mine is a Motorola of which the specific model I can't seem to recall. Some buttons are missing from my phone.

When someone calls me, it plays "Sweet Dreams (are made of these)" the Marilyn Manson version... not the Eurythmics one.

  6. My mum's phone is an old Nokia with a rubber waterproof casing because she's ALWAYS dropping it. She's had it nearly as long as I've been alive. Mum's very old fashioned. It simply rings, like a 'proper' phone -
    ring ring...ring ring...

  7. Mine plays Hallelujah. Dunno why. I think it came that way. Mostly I keep it turned off, so I don't hear it much.

  8. Mine is a Sony Ericsson Z525 - a flip phone they make that is slightly different depending on which phone service you use. It just rings like a regular phone but it also vibrates. If I use a musical tone I don't recognize it as a phone call.

  9. I have an ancient brick-like Nokia which does not take photos or play games (and which I hardly ever have turned on for incoming). If and when it does ring it sounds just like a proper phone should sound.
It comes in very useful, however, when I sit beside the road with a broken down motorcycle or car.

  10. mines a nokia and its always on vibrate. i seemed to have a propensity for getting calls in the most embarassing places until i switched to vibrate. problem is, you cant find it when you call it if its lost. better than having "when the saints go marching in" blaring as i'm headed for the men's room...

  11. I absolutely HATE songs for ringtones. I want something as close to a normal (traditional) bell ringer as I can get, but unfortunately, my phone has nothing that sounds anywhere near like a real phone should sound. I miss the days when the ringing phone was unmistakable for anything else. :-(

Here's another question... how do you feel about ringback tones? My son, and a few other people I call, have these tones/songs that play to the caller while they're waiting for them to pick up the phone. I abhor it. When I call my son, I get "Sweet Home Alabama" blaring in my ear until he answers. I don't understand why people want to force other people to listen to their music when they can't even hear it themselves. That's like me putting my stereo speaker in my neighbor's house, cranking it on to whatever I like to listen to, then leaving it there whether they want to hear it or not. geeez.

  12. Haven't met up with ring back tone but don't like the idea.

Don't like visiting blogs where they ambush you with music either.

  14. I keep the computer on mute as I don't like many noises to be found there.

When we first got our very basic Nokias, Tom was bewildered and rather hostile, so I ofund the composer mode and set him to make me a ring tone of the tune of 'Over the hills and far away'. It's one of my favourite simple tunes and as it's about Tom the piper's son and it's only ever usually Tom that's ringing, I thought it was appropriate. It doesn't sound very sophisticated, and while he got the note values ok it needs to be about double speed, but I know no-one else has one like it.

The standard Nokia ring is hideous.

  15. I used Nokia's basic ring tone that has a soothing melody..dunno what song it is. I hate the idea of caller ringtones..so unprofessional..and if I can find one I'll choose the original ringing sound; but my phone doesn't have it. Oh and I don't like blogs with songs to..I'll put my laptop on mute!
