My Dad

Returned home to the news that my father has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy to start this week.

The good news is that the specialists talk of 'cure' rather than 'palliative' objectives when discussing the effects of the treatment. It will be less than pleasant though, these things always are.

How do I feel about travelling while this is going on? Mixed feelings. Obviously I would like to be here but it is a six month treatment and what could I do? And it may make Dad feel worse if he feels that he is stopping my travelling.

Both he and Mum have said 'Go, go...'.

But I will be twitchy.

  1. Not easy (as you say), but wishing him all the best for the treatment.

  2. Poo's the word.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

  3. poo is so right. but hopefully he has the good kind of lung cancer like my pop. although pop has moved on to a new spiritual plane it wasn't the cancer that took him but the dang CHF from a previous infarct.

There is so much dr's can do these days and I'm hopeful for your dad.

Sending lots of hugs and healing energy thru the Interwebs just for your family!

    Now get packing!

  4. That's rough for all of you, Lee. But I am sure you are right to get on with life - as you say, what can you do if you stay?
Hope all proceeds well for your Dad.

  5. It sounds hard enough if I'm in your shoes. But me too, have lots of faith with the modern medicine and technology..

  6. I'm so sorry. It does make it difficult, doesn't it.

  7. Go. He will never forgive himself if he lives to be ninety - and if he don't, well, what could you do if you did cancel your trip.

Believe me, GO and leave him with a clear conscience to fight this damn thing. It could be he loves you more than enough to cope with whatever comes.

  8. A very belated comment from me... but wanted to send some warm thoughts your way. Very sorry to hear about your father's illness. I am sure that he will gain strength for his journey, knowing that you are completing yours.
Wherever you are in the world today, I send you a smile :)
