Is it something in the water?

Over this year...

◊ My brother in law has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
◊ A friend of the family has been diagnosed with leukemia
◊ My neighbour has been diagnosed with some sort of tumours in his prostate

...and I just had a call from a good friend to say that he has brain cancer.

I'm not enjoying this.

◊◊ Postscript ◊◊

Thanks to Gracie for pointing me at this: The Survivor Movie.

  1. Lee, I'm so sorry to hear this. Dealing with serious illness among one's friends and relatives is always so hard! Don't forget to take care of yourself as their battles continue.

  2. Strange isn't it... I have started to wonder too, because we have had a similar year amongst our family/friends. Very sorry to hear that you are reeling...

(ps this is amazing after the link I posted just today - check it out, I think you'll find it helpful)

  4. Wish I had something comforting to say.

    It's a terrible, terrible thing.

And I don't so much suspect the water, as our air and our food, and our lifestyles and the stuff we rub on our skins and in our hair. See? No comfort. Not exactly what we've evolved to cope with, over millions of years, if that is what you believe, and for creationists, not exactly what you were created to cope with either wouldn't you say?

My mother is a breast cancer survivor.

We have friends facing serious illness too, we feel so helpless.

  5. It's becoming very common now, isn't it? We have some survivors and some who succumb to it in our family too. Guess it's just part of life now. Take care..

  6. oh lee, i'm so sorry to hear of all this too-close-for-comfort reality landing in your life. hmmmm. what is going on with our environment? will making efforts to feel loved and be happy keep all this sickness at bay? if so, i'm sending out my love to you, your family and friends. big hugs, snowsparkle

  8. It's a combination of our age and statistics, I think Lee. My mum is an old lady now, and her conversations are mostly about which of her friends have just died.

I have two friends who are battling with cancer. This makes me even more determined to live for the moment, to sieze the day, to count my good fortune, to not save up for a rainy day, and it minimises my self-centred grumblings.

I'm sorry that this bad stuff is affecting you too, Lee.

  9. I just heard Friday that my uncle in Cape Town got brain cancer too, the news comes as a shock but to get it in such double doses like yours must certainly be awful. All the best Lee, you and your friends are in our thoughts and prayers.
