I've heard of marriages going pear shaped...

.

"In theory we are asking for the return of the kidney. Of course, he wouldn't really ask for that, but the value of it" - Lawyer for a US surgeon, who donated a kidney to his wife who is divorcing him.

OK there's bitter divorces and then there's bitter divorces. Richard Batista has cause to be a little aggrieved that his wife is now divorcing him. He donated one of his kidneys to her in 2001 and she started divorce proceedings in 2005.

I've heard of marriages going pear shaped, but kidney shaped? That's new.

And a pretty serious form of transplant rejection, too.

  1. I didn't even need to read 'US surgeon' to know that happened here. Only in America. Geez. What the hell is wrong with people?!

  2. One can only wonder how they are going to calculate the value of, er,'donated' semen....

  3. I would be bitter about that too.

  4. I wonder if she had already planned to leave him before he gave her the kidney...or if he walked around with an "I gave you my kidney so you owe me" sort of attitude and the woman just couldnt' take it anymore.

  5. This is the reason some countries do not like organ recipients (spelling?) to know the donor or the donar family.
    Now we can see why!

  12. LOL!

But a donation is a donation - you can't take back money that you donate. So why a kidney?

  13. It is totally impossible to put a value on this. Should Mothers go after their children if they fall out and say "I gave you life, now pay me for it"?.....

It is done it is the past, how could she pay him?..

But yes I can imagine he could be as wild as a wasp.

  14. Well he was willing to part with it at the time, so even though he's bitter and maybe hurt now he should get over it. How would you put a price on such an organ, he donated it... but I think this could possibly get really ugly and the only winners will be the lawyers. ♥

  15. Aren't those just kidney beans anyway? She should just give 'em back, a lot of good they must be doing her...

  16. Maybe he should have donated his spleen instead?

  23. In December my niece was given a new life, she had a kidney transplant from a live donor, i applaud this act of pure unselfishness & cannot thank the donor enough - bottom line, it is just that, giving life. How sad a place is this in which we live when it all comes down to money!!!

  24. The final commentary I heard on this subject was "in this State, you can't even sue to get your ring back"...
