Paris to New York, via Google Maps.

I love Google Maps. The poor man's GPS.

But if you put Paris in as your starting point and New York as your destination, you get instructions that include Line 20 above.

Too much spare time in Googleville?

  2. Hi Lee,

I tried it from my home right opposite New York but with the Atlantic Ocean between me & the Statue of Liberty. Like you I get to swim 5572 km but the Google software makes me burn petrol to drive to Le Havre first when it would be much easier for me to cross the road from my place and dive into the briny. I pushed Google further by trying La Turballe, France (home) to Aireys Inlet, Australia (former home). Google baulked at the idea. Probably decided it was too far to swim or that white pointers would get me first somewhere near the Cape of Good Hope !!

  3. Even better, Lee. If you try Google Maps for the itinerary from Dublin to Glasgow they forget there's a fair stretch of water between the two.

But they do post the disclaimer, "These directions are for planning purposes only. You may find that construction projects, traffic, or other events may cause road conditions to differ from the map results."

    Cheers,

    Allan

  7. Google map is the modern day atlas, with humor and a new way for imagination to sprout wings.

I love looking at French villages and seeing the gardens behind the walls!
