Before the fall...

Bit the bullet and had gutter guard fitted last week. In the past I have just gone up ladders to fish out the collected leaves but I am getting sick of this as a past-time.

Plus the news told us recently of someone who fell off a ladder and died doing the same thing.

Plus I usually only remember when we are having a thunder storm and all the gutters are blocked and overflowing.

So, gutter guard. The idea is the leaves slide off the roof while the water passes through the mesh into the gutter. (Water? What's that?) Should work. Certainly sounds good in principle.

And I only have to look above the house to know what is coming, come autumn...

Money well spent, I reckon.

  1. That's such a good idea. Dad fell off a ladder cleaning the gutters once...are they expensive?

  2. Money well-spent and a very sensible idea, Lee. A few years ago a friend of mine fell of the ladder when he was cleaning out his gutters, broke both of his heels, and almost slice one off!

So no more climbing ladders for you!

  4. My father installed that for me this past fall. I can't wait to see the results, of course, I wasn't the one cleaning the gutters anyway.

  6. At least you guys in Oz tend to live in bungalows. Just the other day I (reluctantly) crawled up a ladder 2 storeys to mend the break in my gutter - Mrs Avus anchoring it at the bottom. I do not like ladders or heights, so consider myself a hero!

  7. I used to put off cleaning the gutters (we called them eavestroughs back in Canada, gutters were at the side of the road, but try saying that in Texas - oh the blank looks) until the fall leaves had rotted and the spring's elm seeds had sprouted (I had twenty-some elm trees, prolific seeders) and I thought it was quite lovely in a lazy hanging gardens of Babylon sort of way. But oh, the smell and the muck and the fuss when my Dad would come over and make me help him clean them out.

  8. I have heard mixed reviews here in the states... but the ones I have seen dont look anything like your photo... perhaps we Americans just havent got the best model! *wink

Funny to think you are gearing up for fall and we are looking forward to spring here. I often forget you are clear around the world from me.

  10. But is looks as if you still couldn't resist climbing on that ladder to take the picture, or is it called inspecting the work?
