No way, Man! I'm hap-hap-happy!

.

.

There is a very dodgy website called Beat Blue Monday.

Using the following quite bizarre formula, they have determined that tomorrow, January 19th, is the most depressing day of the year.

Blue Monday was first defined by Cliff Arnall, formerly of Cardiff University, marking the symbolic time in January when people suffer from a series of combined depressive effects.

Blue Monday was devised using the following mathematical equation:

The model was broken down using six immediately identifiable factors; weather (W), debt (d), time since Christmas (T), time since failing our new year’s resolutions (Q), low motivational levels (M) and the feeling of a need to take action (Na).

The equation calculates that Monday 19 January 2009 is the worst day of the year, when the Christmas glow has faded away, New Year’s resolutions have been broken, cold Winter weather has set in and credit card bills will be landing on doormats across the land – whilst the January pay-cheque is still some way away.

Well...

Today was fine, temperatures in the mid 20s C, mid 70s F.
The garden is a bit water stressed but looking reasonable.
The further I get away from Christmas, the happier I am.
All my resolutions are intact because I was selective in what I resolved.
Debt is manageable.
I am sipping a nice glass of Shiraz
And...

...the 19th of January is the last day of the reign of Mad George.

What's not to be deliriously happy about?

  4. Well, change the Shiraz to Guinness and I'm all set!

...except it is as cold as the proverbial well-digger's buttocks.
    ...except I have a cold.
...resolutions? Have none, because I made none. Pretty slack, eh?
...except no garden, just twigs and dirt.

On second thought, bugger off! I'll just sit here, nurse my beer, and dream of spring ;)

(I thought you were going to say it was a website dedicated to New Order music...)

  6. I'm one day away from chuffing off to the seaside, temperature is around 26 degrees celsius, sun is shining, no sign of Christmas and never was, don't have a credit card so couldn't give a stuff about that, and I might not have a glass of shiraz in front of me right now (the village, the village!), but in 40 hours I'll be in somewhere beachy and balmy and I might have then! So much for that, then, eh Lee? :)

  9. Hope everyone has a positive and non-depressing Blue Monday.

I do object to the reference 'dodgy web site'.

The idea behind Blue Monday is to use the publicity surrounding the day to achive a social good, in this case promote the work of the Mental Health Foundation in the UK as well as provide practical guidance on well-being.

It's all being done free of charge by my company, GREEN communiucations. Why is it a 'dodgy web site'.

Hope you can amend this reference.

  10. Shouldn't the equation be a bit different for people like you who have opposite seasons? The middle of winter here is depressing because of the short days, lack of sunlight, and general cold dreary weather. But if it's "summer" in January where you are, sunny and warm, the equation just can't work there.

(besides, I think you'd have a good "Blue Monday" just to spite those who would tell you that you won't) :-)

  12. The weather is great (it is great in winter too, you know Queensland; beautiful one day, perfect the next) I've been for a morning walk, I had a big bowl of food for breakfast and I know nothing about debt, Monday or mathematics. And I think Obama is just you would want in a pack leader.
