We can probably all think of other ' Accordian Crimes ' perhaps almost worse than E. Annie Proulx did . We had a family member who insisted on inflicting some on us -- at every opportunity in fact .
I agree with that meaning...except for one particular CD I have by Lynne August, a blind piano-accordianist playing Creole/Zydeco music...it is brilliant. I love the CD.

Yes, bagpipes can be really eerie and beautiful. Remember the Royal Scot's Greys and their recording of Amazing Grace? Made your hair stand on end.
