There is a primitive beauty in candles.
They have long been associated with the occult, and other such religions, despite the advent of all manner of fancy technological alternatives. They captivate the soul, showing both its brightness and it frailty.
Candle lit dinners are still the romantic benchmark.
Birthdays would be dull without them.
And it is the symbol of Amnesty International, an organisation needed more and more in this world.
"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared."
- Buddha, 563-483 B.C.

I light a candle almost every day! my ex- always used to light a candle at Christmas for "absent friends and family" - i loved that!
ReplyDeleteGreat Post, lee,
cheers for now,
pj
Stamps!!! hah hah hah hah, also cute!
ReplyDeleteI love burning candles!
ReplyDeleteThere is no light that can compare to the light from a candle. When I hear someone say, "I don't like candles," I have to think, how sad, you are missing so much. But then, maybe they don't like the glass of plum wine that I drink while watching them.......so they are missing that also.. haha
ReplyDeleteFor a person who has never been to a candle light dinner and never light up aroma candles..candles remind me of the blackout times..we used to enjoy playing with the shadows, snuggling in our parents' big bed and marveled at the warmth of the candles and how peaceful the night seems without bright light and TV!
ReplyDeleteIf the Govt has its way with the environment, it wont be long before candles are our principle source of lighting.
ReplyDeleteWe love candles too. We have two on our tv ('cause baby took it from the coffee table) and they smell so nice, even on 40C days in summer when you open the front door and can smell them, it's fantastic and they are not even ligthed.
ReplyDeleteLovely post. It is the same with love, the more you give, the more you have, & it is never diminished.
ReplyDeletewell said! especially the buddha quote! with 53 candles on the wall of my livingroom, i think i qualify as a candle lover. big hugs, snowsparkle
ReplyDeletehummm "Happiness never decreases by being shared." that is profound and I totally agree with the Buddah...
ReplyDeleteIts "the life of the candle will not be shortened." bit that I dont go along with... ever use a candle to light others???? That one is always the shortest! lol
I love candles... and light them every day! I have them throughout the house!
The fat guy certainly had his finger on the pulse of things ...
ReplyDeleteI love candle light...I have candles dotted all around my cabin. Yes...romance is never dead around here...even if there's only me and me and my two cats!
ReplyDeleteYes, candle lights are lovely. I put some candles in some igloos in the snow when it's winter here. They really look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I see it as life and death dancing together. The flame resembles life and the wick loosing its life, only to support the life of fire..........beautiful!
