Prickly Pears

A noxious weed in Australia, prickly pear abounds in Morocco.

Lots of pips, tastes a little like watermelon.
...

Casablanca - slightly newer

There is an art deco section of Casablanca.

OK, pick the odd one out....the last shot was of an old doorway in a market.

Oasis

Found a lovely little restaurant with a secluded front courtyard.

Lovely food.
...

Guard

A bored guard at the Royal Palace.
...

Coffee time

Shot from the hip so composition a bit wonky.

Many, many coffee houses around Casablanca but nearly entirely
populated by men. The Casablancan equivalent of guys going down to
the pub to get away from the missus?
....

Caveat rambla

The market areas are a trap for tourists - you cannot just wander and
admire things. OK, I know they have to make a living but it is so
hard to just admire the handicraft.
...

The better part of town

Wandered into the Nouvelle Medina area - much nicer houses than with
yesterday's post.

Grumph!

Can't access blogger directly so I am posting by email.

It seems not all of the photo attachments are making the leap through
hyperspace.

Sorry.

...

Sacre Coeur Cathedral, Casablanca.

Old cathedral in town but has been used as a convention and exhibition
centre for some time.
...

Odd mosque shots

Some of the tiles in the mosque and a shot of the (yet to be made
public) public baths below the mosque.
...

Mosque roof

The roof of the Hassan II mosque opens to refresh the air in the
building. We were lucky enough to be there when it did.
...

The Hassan II Mosque

The third largest mosque in the world, the top two are in Saudi Arabia
apparently. Holds 25,000 people with room outside for a further
80,000. Build 1986-1993. At night a laser shines from the top of
the minaret towards Mecca.

Very impressive use of space, something I found lacking in Spanish
cathedrals - they have a big building and then fill it with junks so
you don't get the 'wow!' factor from the space.
...

Look down too!

There are interesting buildings to look at but you need to keep an eye
on the footpath too!
...

Casablanca

Out and about in Casablanca.

Food

Mmmm...can't blog so back to the email posting for the moment.

Tray: First time I have ever been upgraded to business class. This
was the starter tray for the Barcelona to Casablanca flight.

Sign: I'm sure you can guess.
